This meeting will feature a *Q&A panel* with club alumnus and current Penn Med student John Li, 5th year senior Brooks Martino, who just took the MCAT this past summer and is planning on applying to schools in the next few months, and an MD/PHD student.  This will be a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the pre-health process and gain valuable advice from people who have already gone through it all!

A visit from Dr. Roy Vagelos!

Members of PHAS met with Dr. Roy Vagelos to learn about his journey in medicine.

Dr. Roy Vagelos is a Penn Athletics alumni and a member of the Board of Trustees at Penn, having established three of Penn's most prestigious programs: The Vagelos Scholar's Program in Molecular Life Sciences, The Vagelos Program in Life Sciences and Management, and The Vagelos Integrated Program in Energy Research. Dr. Vagelos graduated from Penn in 1950 with a degree in Chemistry. He then attended medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Vagelos then went on to become CEO and Chairman of the pharmaceutical company Merck. With Vagelos' peristance, Merck discovered a drug to combat river blindness in West Africa. Vagelos himself is the author of over 100 scientific papers. Dr. Vagelos has donated over 15 million dollars to Penn, leading to the creation of the Roy and Diana Vagelos Laboratories. PHAS is extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to speak with such an influential and accomplished researcher, physician, and philanthropist.
